Geothermal Energy

Geothermal energy refers to the heat energy that is stored in the ground. Heat is supplied to the ground from two sources namely the hot core of the planet and the sun. It can be classified as either 'deep' or 'shallow' depending on the depths involved.

How does geothermal work?

A Geothermal ground or air source heat pump simply moves heat energy from one place to another. Using the same technology as a refrigerator, the system removes the existing heat energy stored in the earth or groundwater and transfers it into the home. This allows for heating, air-conditioning and hot water all from the same compact unit with greater efficiency.

Like a boiler, the heat pump has a flow and return which delivers hot water to your heating system and hot water tank. The heat pumps are ideal partners with other low-temperature heating systems, such as underfloor heating, wall heating and low surface temperature radiators.
